<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>Today, despite the introduction of primary and secondary prevention methods, chronic non-communicable diseases remain the main cause of high morbidity and mortality throughout the world. According to some studies, hepatic component metabolic syndrome and one of the main factors contributing to the development of cardiometabolic diseases is non-alcoholic severe liver disease. According to the results of studies, NAFLD is currently the leading cause of chronic liver diseases worldwide and is closely associated with the development of cardiometabolic pathology, in particular type 2 diabetes and CVD. This review is devoted to the epidemiology, pathophysiology of the close relationship between NAFLD and type 2 diabetes, as well as therapy affecting insulin resistance, a key link connecting these two nosologies.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>метформин</kwd><kwd>плейотропные эффекты</kwd><kwd>сахарный диабет 2 типа</kwd><kwd>инсулинорезистентность</kwd><kwd>дислипидемия</kwd><kwd>ожирение</kwd><kwd>метаболический синдром</kwd><kwd>сердечно-сосудистая система</kwd><kwd>неалкогольная жировая болезнь печени</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>Metformin</kwd><kwd>pleiotropic effect</kwd><kwd>type 2 diabetes mellitus</kwd><kwd>insulin resistance</kwd><kwd>dyslipidemia</kwd><kwd>obesity</kwd><kwd>metabolic syndrome</kwd><kwd>inflammation</kwd><kwd>oxidative stress</kwd><kwd>cardiovascular system</kwd><kwd>microvascular complications</kwd><kwd>non-alcoholic fatty liver disease</kwd><kwd>intestinal microbiota</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Roglic, Gojka.
